Diagnosis of cardiovascular disease and its treatment will be determined by your cardiologist depending on the type and severity of the disease.  However, some aspects of prevention may be more under your control than you think.  Although genetics and other unknown factors do influence cardiovascular disease, it is a well known fact that there are variable risks factors. You should consider addressing and where possible eliminating the risk factors that are certainly under your control.  Most include life style changes that may be hard, but at the same time are certainly necessary for optimum cardiovascular health.

Since there is a strong relationship between periodontal disease and CVD, it is important to pay close attention to the risk factors for periodontal disease as many are similar for CVD.
